Dad has spent quite a bit of today trying to communicate with me, the nurse, or anyone that came into his room. Unfortunately most of what he was saying none of us could understand. Remember he can't talk yet (because of the trachea) so we are trying to read lips. He gets frustrated and I get frustrated. Hopefully we will be able to improve on this somehow.
Today the nurse started giving daddy ice chips. He LOVED this! He can't really "feed" them to himself so I sat there spooning them in for him. So glad he has finally got a little something he likes.
While talking to the nurse about several things she said that the PA said they were thinking about putting dad on Xyprexia but she didn't leave orders to give it yet. You can tell that dad is depressed. It is hard to tell if it is about his situation or if he is thinking about mom and missing her. I think giving him an antidepressant is a good thing. He needs something to help lift his spirits -- at least until he can talk and tell us what is going on inside his head.
Keep those prayers going up for dad and me.
Kathy
