Somewhere around 11:30 to 12 am I got a call saying that dad had taken a turn for the worse. They were going to move him to ICU and may have to put a tube down his throat. Panic set in and I rushed to the hospital.
When I got to the hospital the doctor said that dad was doing better and would not be moved to ICU. They believe that at the time dad was doing so badly that he was having a mild heart attack. They ran test to make sure there were no blood clots, but did find that he has pneumonia in the lower right lobe of his right lung.
Dad's blood pressure is high. They get it to come down, then back up it goes. The doctors haven't gotten a handle on it yet.
When dad is awake he seems to be highly agitated. They have given him stuff for it but nothing seems to be working. Dad is still in restraints which he hates.
The hospital has put a sitter in the room with dad so they can keep a better eye on him. He keeps trying to get out of the bed, pull out IVs, etc....
Yesterday dad didn't know who I was. Today he knew me. Even introduced the cardiac doctor to me his daughter. I asked dad for a kiss and he pucker up. To me this is good it shows that the fog he was in is lifting. But who knows what I will walk in on tomorrow.
The doctor did ask me about dad's wishes in case something happened. It was really, really, really hard to see the nurse put a purple wristband with DNR written on it on dad. I am hoping and praying that they will never have to read the wristband.
