Friday March 27

When I went to see dad this morning everything was about the same as yesterday. The oxygen was down to 40% and the "PEEP" was at an 8 setting. Everything else was stable. Oh and his fever was gone.

After I left they tried a breathing trial on dad. They didn't take the ventilator out but they switched the setting over to CPAP (which is like the machine he used at night for his sleep apnea). He did great for the first 15 minutes. They left him on it for about 45 minutes but had to stop as his blood pressure shot way up and his heart started racing. After they switched the ventilator back on it took a little while to get him settled back down. I was there a little after all this happened and dad's face was so red. The nurse said it was from all that went on but he was settling down and his blood pressure was getting close to normal.

I'm not really sure if this changes anything. I asked the nurse if they would try this again tomorrow and she said it was up to the doctor. He would need to look at all that went on with dad's blood pressure, heart, and lungs before making a decision.

I did watch the nurse change dad's dressing this morning. Not for the faint of heart! I guess considering what I was looking at it looked good. I have never seen such a huge wound open before.

Keep the prayers going up for dad and me. They are working. So much could be going wrong and it isn't so it must be your prayers.
