Dad is doing a little better each day.
No real news on anything going on with him today. He obeys commands sometimes. When N (his middle granddaughter) and I went to see him this afternoon he would shake his head no to a couple of questions but not respond to most. He kept his eyes closed most of the time we were there. When N said bye he mouthed the word bye. He did it twice!
This morning when I went in to see him they had his blood pressure cuff on his right arm. The are NOT supposed to do this. They moved the pic line out of his right arm because they found a blood clot there weeks ago. There is a sign up saying NO blood pressure or needle sticks in his right arm. A nurse (not his) moved and I said I wanted to see the supervisor. Then dad's nurse came in and said it must have happened when she and an CNA gave dad his bath earlier. I was still highly upset. The supervisor finally came by and while she didn't make light of it she did try to play it down saying that if the blood clot was still there it hadn't moved or we would have seen signs of it. She assured me she would talk to the responsible parties (one of whom was standing in the room). I tried to be nice and not get over emotional but let her know that there was NO excuse, especially since there was a sign there in the room. A little while later I saw dad's surgeon. I told him what had happened and he said I shouldn't have complained to the supervisor I should have just handled it with the nurse involved. It was all I could do not to hit him! That "little" mistake could have cost my dad his life and I shouldn't have went to the supervisor? What if the blot clot got loose when the blood pressure cuff inflated? Dad could have died -- and I assure you no one would have told me about the mistake.
Keep those prayers going up for dad and me.
Aunt Betty is back in the hospital so keep those prayers going up for her too.
Kathy
