day 9 of therapy ?

Went to see dad today and I threw myself a big old hissy fit. I was upset about just about everything. I will try to make the story short. Instead of detailing my hissy fit I will just tell you the very latest about dad. Which is what you would rather read about I am sure.

Dad seemed to be going down hill the past few days. His blood pressure is worse ---meaning the way it drops whenever he sits up or stands. I know he hasn't been getting enough liquids and now the PA decides I might be right and started dad an IV for fluids for 24 hours to see if that helps to perk him up some.

Yesterday the PA said dad was a diabetic, I go since when? She said since today. He blood sugar is high in the mornings and normal in the evenings (or was it the other way around?) So she started him on some kind of medicine yesterday to help lower his sugar. I TOTALLY disagree with the doctor about him having diabetes. Instead of going just on finger sticks she needs to do a blood test before I will be convinced. Anyway today when dad was so dizzy they do a finger stick and said his blood sugar was low, about 64 I think. So now the PA says maybe the dizzy is coming from low blood sugar. They give dad some sweet stuff to eat and his blood sugar comes up to 90 something. So now the PA is convinced dad's weakness/dizziness today was due more to low sugar so she is taking him off the diabetic medicine. Me? That may have been part of it, but I was also pushing liquids into dad and I think THAT is what really helped.

So we are waiting to see what 24 IV fluids will do for dad. And the CNA's and nurses are supposed to be offering dad something to drink several times a day -- not just at meal time.

Dad looked and felt better by the time I left today. Oh, and they are running blood tests, doing a urine test, and they did a chest x-ray. Oh yeah, when I throw a hissy fit, I throw a hissy fit. The nurse said she had to deal with dad during most of her shift today. I feel so sorry for her. LOL
